Preventative measures, defensive tactics, and post incident strategy for healthcare providers dealing with violent and combative patients will be explored at the 2017 CLM Management & Professional Liability Conference later this month. WSHB’s Constance Endelicato, an undefeated medical negligence litigator with over 25 years experience defending healthcare professionals, joins Gina Harris, ProAssurance Corporation, and Geri Luebeck, Providence Saint John’s Health Center for the session on July 27, 2017 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel.
“Health care providers are placed in vulnerable positions when faced with violent, combative, or disruptive patients, said Endelicato, a partner at WSHB. “A provider has the duty to protect the patients from injuring themselves and from injuring others, often requiring forceful or extreme measures, thereby subjecting the provider and the institution to criminal investigation and costly litigation.”
While incident-producing behavior is nearly impossible to avoid, there are preventative measures to be implemented to lower the risk to the provider. Key takeaways from the session will also include strict policies and procedures regarding interventions and immediate action for preservation of evidence.
