Fuel for Future Litigation and Best Practices to Avoid Exposure
Disruption in the construction industry, fuel for lawsuits in the future and perils and pitfalls for those handling litigation. This sentence captures what promises the content-rich presentation during the upcoming DRI Construction Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nationally acclaimed attorney Stephen Henning will moderate a panel of thought leaders as they discuss the game changers which are playing out in courtrooms, newspapers and project sites throughout the nation, which give rise to emerging theories of liability, areas of exposure and sage risk management practice pointers. Joining Henning on the panel will be Phyllis Modlin from Markel Corporation, Linda Pretzel from RiverStone and Maria Quantaro with Hinshaw.
"In an extremely high level presentation, we will dissect trends which you are reading about in the headlines and issues percolating in the trial courts of the nation which directly translate into the litigation of the future," said Henning, co-founder of Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman, LLP. "Those attending will leave with a better understanding of the newer issues emerging, together with sage practice pointers on how to avoid or minimize risk."
One of the highly anticipated topics which this panel will tackle is the growing number of climate change related cases involving the construction industry. "Wildfire, hurricanes and flooding are events where there simply is not enough insurance," said Henning. "What we are seeing played out are efforts to connect the construction process to the damages created in an effort to tap additional parties to bridge funding gaps." On this point, the panel will address both the novel theories being articulated by the plaintiff bar together with an insightful discussion of practice pointers on how to manage and avoid or minimize exposure.
This highly anticipated panel is scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. DRI’s Construction Law Conference is a three-day event being held on April 10-12, 2019 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. Attendees include construction professionals, attorneys, and insurance professionals, all of whom will benefit from the educational and networking opportunities being made available. WSHB is proud to be a silver sponsor of this year’s conference.
