Sam McDermott, Managing Partner of Wood Smith Henning & Berman's Orange County office, will take to the stage at the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Construction Law Section February Meeting being held on February 5, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the OCBA offices in Newport Beach, California. Mr. McDermott will speak on "Terminating a Construction Project Before Completion: Dos, Don’ts, Claims, & Litigation," alongside Pete Fowler, Principal, Pete Fowler Construction Services.
Topics to be discussed include the contractual rights/obligations of parties in the termination of construction projects prior to completion. This includes a basic description of the construction contracting process, the manner in which damages are calculated after termination, and how attorneys can aid the owner in eventually finishing the project separately and the contractor can ensure that they are paid for the work that was completed.
Mr. McDermott has litigated numerous cases at the state and federal level involving complex construction issues, which includes payment disputes, delay damages, design professional liability, architect and engineering professional liability, on-site injuries, workplace regulations, construction defects, prevailing wage claims, and construction quality issues.
