WSHB's Sam McDermott will speak at the 2015 Construction SuperConference at the Hilton Bayfront in San Diego, CA, December 7-9. The Construction SuperConference, now in its 30th year, is recognized as the preeminent construction conference developed for mid- to senior-level professionals who work in any of the legal and commercial construction markets. Sam’s session, “"Whose Design Is It Anyway?" - BIM, IPD, Design-Build, and the New Reality of Commercial Construction in a 3-D World” is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9th at 10:15 a.m.
Using real case studies, the educational session is expected to identify risks and provide recommendations concerning design-build construction, building information modeling ("BIM") and integrated project delivery ("IPD"). Upon completion of the session participants should be able to identify the different ways contractors may be exposed to design liability and develop procedures to protect against the risk of contractor design liability.
A managing partner in WSHB's Orange County office, Sam has litigated numerous cases at the state and federal level involving complex construction, tort and environmental issues. He has an extensive amount of experience in commercial construction litigation involving construction payment disputes, delay damages, onsite injuries, workplace regulations, prevailing wage claims, professional liability and construction quality issues.
An accomplished trial lawyer, Sam has handled all facets of complex construction. "Those attending the conference will take away key practice pointers which all construction professionals, risk managers, general counsel can immediately employ," said Sam. "Given the rapidly changing technology in the construction arena and we are seeing firsthand in the context of litigation, this will be an incredible educational opportunity."
