We are pleased to announce the appointment of Lori Barker, Managing Partner of WSHB's New Orleans office, to the chair position of the newly launched Insurance Law Group of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. Ms. Barker is an active and valued member of the LADC, and in addition to her appointment as the Insurance Group Chair she has also been elected to serve on the LADC Board of Directors for a term which began in August 2021.
The LADC is a nonprofit organization serving primarily defense lawyers who practice in civil litigation. Its purpose is to provide resources to support the continuing education and skills of defense lawyers. LADC also has practice group areas in employment law, medical malpractice, environmental and energy law, construction and commercial litigation to support practitioners representing clients in those areas of specialty. These groups are active in the CLE seminars, the newsletter, and on the website and are instrumental in supporting the education of members. They also provide a forum for communication and collaboration with other attorneys working in the same areas. The insurance group will be of prime importance as lawyers representing clients in the insurance industry deal with the challenges left behind by Ida in the coming months.
Lori Barker is an insurance law industry thought leader navigating various complex insurance issues for international carriers, syndicates and other insurers. She utilizes her wide-ranging experience in navigating difficult issues surrounding the consequences and challenges the insurance industry faces after catastrophic storms such as the recent Hurricanes Laura, Delta and Ida. As part of her insurance practice, she regularly advises carriers facing first-party bad faith claims or third party claims made pursuant to the Louisiana Direct Action statute.
Please join us in congratulating Lori Barker in her new role as Chair of the LADC Insurance Group.
