Wood Smith Henning & Berman is excited to announce the return of the highly popular hands-on workshop at the upcoming Claims & Litigation Management (CLM) Construction Conference led by partner Ryan Hicks. This year's conference will be held at the Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, CA from September 18-20, 2024.
The list of innovative materials in the construction industry is constantly evolving, and this workshop provides a unique opportunity for attendees to explore and interact with these materials firsthand. Following the success of the "Dirty Jobs' hands-on concrete class in 2022 conference, the team is back with another engaging session that invites participants to get their hands dirty again. The session is entitled, "Dirty Jobs 2.0: Going Hands-On with Building Materials to Better Understand Defect Litigation" and will be led by WSHB Partner Ryan Hicks; Terence Kadlec, Vice President of Engineering & Specialty S., MC Consultants, Inc; Maren Mooney, Director of Claims, Turner Surety and Insurance Brokerage; and Karen Rice, Vice President, Head of Construction Claims North America.
While mixing concrete will bookend the class, the core theme of the workshop is the innovation of materials and their implications in construction defect litigation, as well as product and professional liability. In addition to concrete, participants will learn about and physically interact with a variety of innovative materials, including but not limited to:
- Hempcrete
- The highly contentious Zipwall system
- 3-D printed building materials
Examples will cover a wide range of applications, including building envelopes, roofing, waterproofing, and more. Attendees will be inherently engaged and equally challenged through interactive discussions and Q&A sessions.
"This workshop is designed to provide construction professionals with a hands-on understanding of the latest materials and their impacts on construction litigation," said Hicks. "By actually seeing, feeling, and touching these materials, attendees will gain invaluable insights into their practical applications and potential legal implications."
The CLM Construction Conference has been a leading event for over a decade, bringing together insurance and litigation professionals dedicated to the claims industry. This year's conference promises to be an unparalleled opportunity for networking, education, and professional development.
